We are coming to Austria for some skiing in a couple of weeks. We are staying for 10 days and are staying at two different apartments... 7 days in Zell am See and the last 3 days in Kaprun. Is the tourist tax done on a daily basis as the 2nd apartment owner is saying that 9.10 euros per person per week is due, when we will only be staying 3 days?

My understanding, though I am not certain, is that there is a contribution to the local tourist office and may help cover various services they offer, e.g. discounts for guests on lift passes, tourist info office, free / cheap local bus travel etc., and that this is done by the local council. It is normally nightly. I do not know whether any towns make it weekly on an apartment. In my limited experience normally it is included in the headline price, but maybe where they are competing on price, especially on the net, some owners may be tempted to make it an add-on.
If you are paying on the books and they present you with a bill and fill in the usual report of your stay, especially if the owners are local people, chances are they are only charging what they are entitled to charge. Being the German-speaking world these things are pretty well checked up on by the authorities. If they let you stay paying cash, and with no paperwork, they are probably evading that local tourist department tax.

Just come back Wednesday. We stay in the same place most years and the tourist tax is €1.76 ish per night per person. We stayed 3 nights our apparent was €150 Amos we payed €160.60 in total. Also, the snow is coming back thankfully because it was beginning to get slightly wet toward the end and it only got hotter after we left. Have a great time.

Hi
Tourist tax is collected per night per person 14 years of age and above. The rate is not the same in each resort but is around €1.20 to € 1.60. It is sometimes included in the rental cost and as in our case we add it on per person per night because it is not known how many chidren are in a group we could be over or undercharging. Ade stayed with us and paid € 1.40 per night for 2 people. It is very important that we register each guest, as this is a tax we have to pay. Only this morning the " guest registration inspector " called at 9am to check who is booked in this week and who is actually registered. There is a large fine if we do not register. Our registrations ( Leogang ) are done online, but in Zell most are still done manually . It is wrong for the charge to be so high and if I were youI would book elsewhere - or call/email the tourist office to check .
