just come back from driving up to Ballater in Scotland, and drove through Glenshee - my question is how do you get to the ski lifts in the season - there is no accommodation anywhere near and there are barriers which are presumably to close the road off either side of the main lift area on the road when there is a lot of snow?
Scotland is somewhere I would love to go and ski, but not sure of the logistics in Glenshee - and are we just not as organised as the European/Canadian/USA resorts?
like to hear from those of you who have skied Glenshee
thanks

There is an issue with road clearance. Hence stay at the Spittal, or in Braemar. Be prepared for a long road wait if it has snowed. On good days, it is great skiing.

bummer - that means it drops down the list of places to ski unless you live locally because if I go for a week's skiing and have weather that means the roads need clearing (which means it snowed - which normally means huge cheering!!) I will miss ski time :(

Hi there,
We skied Glenshee last year and actually stayed in Ballater, a very nice warm and friendly place, yes it takes 35 mins to get there, when it snowes we just left later in the day, this way the roads where clear, we have a 4x4 so it does have the advantage, but we travel from the Isle of Man and so impressed by both Ballater and the Glenshee, we are going again this January 12. Regards

We stayed in Ballater during the summer. It was on our way to Ballater that we drove through Glenshee and noticed the positions of the lifts, the gates on the roads and the lack of accommodation anywhere near the lifts !!!
