You may be an accomplished skier but maybe you need to step back a little and assess where you are. An instructor can definitely assess your strengths and weaknesses. You can never go wrong by taking a lesson.

All of the above responses are "dead on" and you should not worry too much about what you can and cannot do. Just ski and enjoy it. Take a lesson occasionally to stay calibrated on what you are trying to accomplish and you will get there just fine. It just takes time and practice.

The best way to get better at skiing is to ski a lot. Like, every day the ground is slick. It's all in your balance. The more you ski the better your balance will be. Lessons are good to make it look good and help you understand what you're trying to accomplish, but, no amount of instruction will help you without the balance gained from skiing a lot. This is true, true, true.

I posted a reply to Texas Matt but it didn't count as a reply for some reason.

So, have you decided? December anywhere could be bad...but of the two you mentioned, I think Jackson Hole would be higher probability of having good snow. The elevation there is a lot higher than Utah. The best bet would probably be the Tahoe area although the elevation isn't much higher than Utah. However, Tahoe usually gets lots of snow early in the season so your likelyhood of having good snow would be better. It also gets pretty icy there (Tahoe) due to the low elevation. Hope this helps.
