For ski hire go to Maison Clataud. They have great kit and experienced english speaking staff. They are also excellent at sorting out boot problems!

Skiing in Sauze in Jan is usually excellent. Plenty of snow and great pistes. You will have ski passes that cover the whole of the Via Lattea and this will give you plenty of variety with over 400km of pistes.
I would certainly recommend Moncrons bar for apres ski. Mark runs the show and is a great host. Also the best restaurant in town is Il Falcone owned by a guy called Vince Hawkins. Tell them Kent sent you and they will look after you! If you are looking for a good instructor and somewhere else to drink go to Il Lampone and ask for Alex. Still looking for somewhere to stay then check out http:www.belvederebedandbreakfast.com for our ski packages. |
If you want somewhere within a reasonable budget and have your own transport then we could certainly reccomend a stay at our B&B. We are close to Sestriere and the Via Lattea as well as a couple of smaller but challenging resorts nearby. The Via lattea offers over 400km of pisted trails with many pistes backed up with artificial snow making machines.
if you do not have your own transport do not worry as we can arrange a complete package for your stay including transport, discounted ski passes and a very experienced "ski friend" to show you the best slopes. Check out our site http://www.belvederebedandbreakfast.com for more details. Also a geographical note The Dolomites are part of the Alps. They are a region of the alps just like here we are in the Cottian Alps. The dolomites are also a great place to ski and I would agree that if your budget can stretch then a trip over there is well worth it. |
You asked about Sestriere
I may be biased as I am lucky to live in the area but the skiing here is as good as it gets in the Alps! You have 400km of pisted slopes and good links to get you around. It is good for both skiing and boarding. If you want mega nightlife you need to be in Sauze d'Oulx (Plenty of bars, Irish pubs etc.)but if you prefer something more sophisticated then Sestriere is the place.( Italian film & tv stars, football players etc.) Ski buses are fairly frequent and cheap. These can ferry you to other parts of the Via Lattea but keep an eye on last bus timings and weather conditions. Depending on your group size we may be able to help you out with your holiday. We offer special ski packages including discount ski passes and transport. Check our site http://www.belvederebedanbreakfast.com for more details. |

You are now in Turin I assume. You should have discovered that the local bus Company SAPAV do e good deal to Sestrierre on Wednesdays for about €39 including skipass and travel.(The skipass alone would cost in the region of €28 so it is not a bad deal at all. The alternative would be to get a train to Pinerolo(about €3) and then get a coach to Sestrierre. For anyone else looking for a holiday in this area check out www.ifhannibalhad.com. 8) |
