I'm attempting to go skiing again after 15 years in February.

The trouble I'm having is finding ski boots to fit my calf size.

I'm a size 16 lady so not absolutely huge, but got given some Rossingnol ski boots but can only just do up the top buckle. They are not going to be comfortable to ski in so will need to buy another pair.

So my question is do some brands have a better width in calf size then others. Should a go for a rear entry boot or front buckle boot?

So out of touch after all these years so any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance.

My wife had the same trouble with the Rossignol fit. She found Lange ski boots gave her the extra calf room required!

A good ski bootfitter can replace most buckles with longer ones, and also mould the shell to suit your leg shape. It's important to get the right shape boot for your feet, so make certain your feet are measured.

My calves are larger than average. I did a bit of research online before going to buy my boots. A few brand names were described as suitable. However the guy in Ellis Brigham seemed to know his stuff as far as larger calves were concerned.

On here many people suggest a professional boot fitter. This is definitely the route I'll be taking with my next set of boots. Unfortunately this year funds are low so it will be sometime after this year's trip. I'm sure if you state your area of the country someone here will be able to recommend a boot fitter.

Thanks for all the replies so far, I live in Edinburgh so any recommended boot fitters would be appreciated.

I had a problem with boots being very neat as well but I tried on various makes and ended up with Salomon boots which seemed to be the best fit for me.

This is probably a really stupid question, so my apologies... but have you adjusted the buckles to fully extend them and make them as loose as possible? On my boots they're almost completely out all the way.
I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain

I'm sure I've had some boots where you can reverse the boot buckles to slacken them off.
