Hi everyone, any opinion on hotel Club MMV Flaine. Thinking of booking for week comm. April 2nd. Never skied this late before will snow be good enough or should we be thinking about other resorts. Also is it cost effective to buy ski passes through tour op. or at resort. thank you.

Have been 4 times to Grand Massif in April. Snow has always been fine over the whole area and Flaine in particular still very good, although expect it to be rather wet at the end of the day right in the bottom where the DMC goes from and where all the shops/bars are.
The only problem you might get higher up is some of the more exposed runs being closed due to the wind having blown the snow off - but that could happen at any time of the season.
We do diy so always buy our passes independently (got a family pass online last year, saved about €60)
Don't know anything about accommodation In Flaine, we've skied there, but never stayed there.

at the current rate there won't be any meaningful snow left by April unless it starts dumping pretty soon. What is there now won't last till April.

aww thanks for that!!!! better start praying now. what does happen if the snow doesn,t happen, is it tough do you take out insurance for no ski days, sit in the hotel room sulking (massively) anyone got any experience. is the lack of snow widespread at the moment.

Angeltop,
It's almost a month since I wrote my 1st message on here and I can't believe it hasn't snowed in all that time.
I really hope you aren't unlucky - but it's still 2 months away.
Even the bad snow year (07) was better at Easter than Feb half term. (I know that because we went at half term that year and it was pretty rubbish)

Relax - it is utterly inconceivable that there would not be a lovely big dump between now and your trip, if not lots of them. Besides, with the relatively low levels of early season snow, the odds are now strongly in favour of lots of late season snow!!! Anyway, between snow-making and piste management, you will still be pretty much guaranteed plenty of skiing to be done and you will have a great time!
Obviously, as you are travelling so late in the season, you will have to expect "spring conditions" which means perfectly nice skiing high up and best in the mornings. Lower slopes are likely to be quite slushy/icy, especially after lunch.

I wouldn't say that there wasn't enough early season snow - after all this is what people have been skiing on all this time topped up by some mad-made stuff. But it's getting thin and with warmer temperatures it will be getting even thinner. But unless it will be some sort of record year (hope not) it should snow between now and April, and people with holidays later in the season are in a better position than people who booked their holidays for now. Resorts usually publish on their sites information on other activities available in case of no-snow, so you won't have to sulk in the hotel room:) We booked paragliding for next weekend. I figure it will be more fun than skiing in the conditions especially considering that it's half-terms and slopes will be very busy.
