Sorry Rossyhead,
I meant, what's the flex of your new painful current boots?

sorry-mine are 140flex but have the option to go to 150 if i want (which i cant see me doing). They are Atomic race boots but only because i was able to get a good price on them from folk out here-was set on the salomon ghosts for next season which are 130flex

one of the best thing i have found with them is the large power strap which is really solid and helps keep the top of the boot really tight

rossyhead, when the Velcro finally dies on your power straps, get them swapped for Booster Straps, which have a buckle. I noticed a big difference when I had a pair fitted to my old boots. The straps come in different strengths.

Stiffer, lighter than my old Sollys and much tighter fitting at the heel. Took about 15 min. Looks like I'll be able to hit the slopes tomorrow straight off the train.

Including heat moulding the liner and shell, and a custom footbed...15 minutes...strewth  ????

Good luck with your weekend breaking them in :D

:)Of course not. This I decided to leave for next season. I have custom footbeds from my old boots but even those stayed at home. I had first to test my new boots so that I knew what kind of adjustments they needed - I don't believe in all this custom fitting when you don't know exactly how they feel on your feet straight from the shop. As for breaking them in - they were real heroes this weekend in Zermatt. 3 hours skiing on Friday, 5 on Saturday and on Sunday after skiing all day in knee-deep powder (and this is ON the slopes) I also managed to apres-ski in them till almost 10pm, walked home and was on slopes by 9.30 yesterday with my feet and legs feeling no ill effects whatsoever. I'll mould them in December for a slightly tighter fit but overall they felt as if they were made for my feet. I guess I am lucky. :D

Last season I tried my friend's freeride racing boots with flex 120 and while I found them truly awesome on the downhill, on the lifts I was in agony unless I completely unbuckled them. Guess they are being racing boots for a reason - they are not really meant to be fully done up on your feet for long periods of time. Freeriders or downhill racers unbuckle and even take them off once they finish their run - i.e. after a couple of minutes. For all-day skiing my friend (she's instructor in the resort but likes to participate in races) normally uses 80-90 flex and says it's plenty. No wonder your boots are painfull.

mine are getting really good actually now just with 4 or 5 days on them. toes are no longer in such agony-although a little cold! my old ones were 100flex and horrible to ski in, even teaching unless in an indoor slope
