After a pleasant ski in Verbier at the weekend (see other thread) we are stranded in Geneva Airport due to heavy snow. Welcoming Swiss kindly checked everyone out of comfy bars and cafes and herded us all to Departure hall (after an hour and a half unloading the baggae onto random carousels.

That's the economy class. I bet there was a congnac night cap, and champaigne for breakfast at first class (and extra wide weighing machines).
because I'm so inclined .....

The airport website says they will be closed until 2pm today. I hope the airport has made better arrangements for the stranded passengers by now.

:-( Reminds me of the time I was stuck in Cancun airport for 24hrs. All 5 of us had bad food poisoning and nothing but the floor to sleep on. We spent hours watching a little mexican guy stick new lettering above the duty free shop, he'd stick one on, one of us would say dejectedly "that's not straight" then "shall we tell him?" "Nah", half an hour later after faffing with it he'd pull it back off again, same over and over. I don't know what we'd have done without him there to watch. Then there was Angry Guy who spent all his time looking out over the airstrip and ranting. We sent one of us over to wind him up a bit more for a laugh. Needs must and all that. At least we didn't have to camp by the bins like in Saltzburg airport.

I'm feeling for you msej449 :?
I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain

I can't understand the closure of airports (or roads) in this country. Why do we have an excuse? Elsewhere in Europe they have well organised plans for snow conditions. It's not as if it's never snowed in the UK before is it? We have established procedures in the event of a nuclear attack which is highly unlikely, and yet we don't bother making suitable plans to deal with snow which is highly likely at some point every year! We're a laughing stock. Rant over.

What I will say for this country is we never know when the snow is comming but in mountain areas
they know it will snow between November and April, so we have a small excuse but they have none.
