I was thinking about the chest mount but in the end i have bought a few new sticky pads and i am going to play with positions on my boots and maybe skis.

Go easy on comments re. skiing style - I've only got 4 weeks under my belt and the wrong side of 40 these days!!

This is a run down the arcelle piste in Val d'Isere (with stops!) on Fri 13th Jan 2012. This is using the chest mount and at highest HD setting (1080). Results seem pretty good to me. Very pleased with the camera and looking forward to using it more in April when we are off skiing with the family.

Fun video.
Out of interest, what did you think of those Rossi skis? Was this your first time on a ski with early rise/tip rocker?

The skis certainly felt very stable (better than the Volkl R1 unlimited skis I hired last year).

Very nice indeed. I like the point of view from the chest harness too.
How much footage can you shoot at 1080 for a given card size? Lots of companies seem to give meaningless "up-to xxx hours" statements.
Where I'm coming from is can you switch the camera on and then forget about it or do you really have to turn it on and off to record the bits you want?
Cheers,
Owen.

I have a couple of 8gb cards but bought a new 16gb high speed card for the camera. Apparently older cards struggle with the writing speed. I bought a Sandisk Extreme SDHC card which apparently (!) will hold 4 hours of video.
The clip I uploaded to youtube is 385 seconds long and 730mb in size. Therefore at highest level the camera uses up 1.9mb per second (this seems consistent across the other videos I took). This equates to approx 7gb per hour or just over 2 hours 1080 HD (30 fps) recording per 16gb card. You can buy 32gb cards but of course the camera battery will run out before then. I carried around a spare Gopro battery but only had to swap over once during the week.
Switching the camera on and off via the chest harness was pretty easy. I was able to look down at the camera and simply tilt the front upwards a little to be able to see the LED screen. The new model has flashing leds to remind you that it is on.
Cheers, Rich

That sort of imformed / quantative reply is why J2Ski is such a good site.
The chest harness would seem to be a good way of seeing if the skierist is over rotating their torso. "If wathching your home movies results in sea sickness then point your shoulders down the valley..."

Owen.
