I don't have a problem with helmets (for motorcyclists)being made optional for those with insurance to fund life-long nursing care.
I dont think for one minute that Smokey was seriously suggesting he would ride a motorbike without a helmet.

Question for you - do YOU look down now on people who ski without a helmet?

Thats what I've been saying on here for ages, yet I still get told by come people that I am wrong and I SHOULD wear one

Without wanted to go too off topic, I do agree to an extent but the individual should ultimately be given the choice. What effect that has on his or her family is again for that individual to consider. As for costing the state, simple rule, if you don't wear a helmet, you forfeit your right to NHS treatment, which would link in nicely with your insurance suggestion.

As for skiing helmets. I think the chances of you doing serious damage on a week long holiday are pretty remote, and your own actions can reduce this even further. I have no desire (yet) to ski off piste, and keep my speed relative to my ability, and like when I drive, or ride my scooter, I ski as if everyone else on the slope is a clown... Expect the unexpected.
