Best of luck Tino :D

I hope the ring is still there when you go back and your fiancee likes it as well.

I'm much to mean to ever think about buying a ring somewhere like Zermatt. I bought and paid for my engagement ring myself (not because my future husband refused to pay, but more as a feminist thing) and I got one in a pawn shop on Kilburn High Road in London for about £10. Anyway, it all worked out okay, because that was about 29 years ago and we're still married now.

So, judging by my experience, what matters is getting one that your OH likes (because she's going to be the one wearing it), not the cost, and if she likes the one in Zermatt then go for it, and I hope she's still wearing it in 29 years time :D

I found the cheapest way to get buy an engagement ring and the subsequent wedding rings was to marry a jeweller's daughter. Lucky me!! Saved a fortune. :D

Cheers everyone :) There was no real reason behind Zermatt other than it's the first chance I had to look!! She does not want a solitaire, but something unusual which opens up options. She also does not like me spending too much so we have to reach an agreement. Very tricky business.

On the spending money front I got 2 new snow related purchases this weekend :) A fantastic The North Face, Summit Series Apex soft shell jacket, in red of course, perfect for late spring and summer sliding. I also got a pair of Tag Heuer sunglasses which have no nechanical arms, rather rubberised-plastic covered memory metal extensions of the frame, the bloke said they were virtually unbreakable. This I can confirm after walloping a chewed up section of Red 42 with my face!! Resulting in a snow burn above my left eye and a cut across my nose :)

Regarding the snow forecast, we might be needing chains over the Col du Lautaret after all
