Depends on what you are comparing to, and where you look to buy a holiday from I guess.

St Anton is regarded as one of THE places to ski, and having been there I can see why. Its not ridiculously expensive, like some of the places in the 3V for example, and for a regular family like mine it was affordable, especially with 2 for 1 lift passes.

Lech I have not visited, but have seen catered chalets there for around the £600pp mark which is certainly not OTT on price. It is much more of a realxed ski area than St Anton, and has a reputation for being a good place for beginners. I am sure there are some very upmarket places there, but again for Joe Average I am certain you could have an affordable holiday there.

I've now narrowed my choice down even further as I'm going to the Wales v Italy game at the Millennium Stadium on the 20th March so can only fly out on the 21st which means either Andorra or Italy (to Turin, therefore, either Courmayer, Cervinia, Champoluc, Gressoney La Thuile, Pila, Bardonecchia, Claviere, Sauze d'Oulx, Sestriere, Sansicario or Sagnalonga, according to the Crystal brochure).
Any further ideas considering
we don't want to travel far to the slopes
we'd prefer a quieter resort

I'm also beginning to realise that Italy seems to cater more for people staying half board in hotels rather than self catering. Which should we go for?
Thanks for your help

Do you only wish to travel with Crystal, from your local airport?

Italy has plenty of self catering accommodation. Crystal may not offer it, but that may be more to do with their profit margins.

If you only wish to travel with Crystal, then out of the list you offer, Gressoney or Champoluc may be the nicest and prettiest with the quietest slopes.

I've picked up a few other brochures now apart from Crystal. Thomson and First Choice actually seem cheaper.
Do you have any views on either Bardonecchia, Sestriere or Pila as I can only fly to Turin on the Sunday 21st March as, remember, I'm going to the Rugby at Millennium Stadium on the Saturday.
In addition, which is the best site on Internet to try to get a last minute deal on these places, or do I phone the company direct or even look on teletext?????
Many Thanks

Pila is very limited. Sestriere is not as nice a place to stay as Sauze IMO and you can get cheap deals to go there. Both are linked and only a few miles apart.
Champoluc and the Aosta Valley resorts are a good shout, a little off the beaten track but good size ski area and being shouted about by a lot more people recently.
Cervinia might be the right place for you?

Sauze is nice place and has pleanty of blues for a beginner.
Courmayeur - is lovely but few blues for beginners.

Sestriere lacks the charm of Sauze & not many tour operators go to Sansicario. (The three are easy enough to ski between anyway)
