Give it a try, see how you feel, it might work out nicely.
Ideally you need someone (I have Jan in mind here) who can ski fast and would be adept with cam in hand, to follow you down and video YOU doing said run. Something to treasure for ever maybe.

As I say, at these speeds I need two poles, I am not Herr Bell.

I like your idea about asking Jan to do it, although he does tend to fall quite a bit! I will run it past him. Bell has a camcorder, with a pistol grip. There just isn't anywhere to hold a digi camera. An interesting thought, though. My main aspiration is to reproduce what I see/feel when having a quickish run down the Merkenwiess.

Ian, you are dead right, I have thought a lot about air/snow shots. That would be meaningless. I still conclude that a head camera would be the best solution. As Pablo said.

My Brother in law this year brought a pistol grip which is very good but I for one do no want that polished ski sunday feel to my home movies, head cams need to practiced with to avoid the air shots, I still like the one handed camera approach, poles in one hand camera held low in the other and away you go, I think it gives that more natural video.

I've seen some really good head camera footage and its probably the best way you will be able to ski normally and therefore capture the moment. I would have thought that the hand held "a la Mr bell" will give you as much potential for sky and snow shots as a head cam given you won't be filming using the viewer and your hand probably won't naturally face downhill...... just like you are likely to look up and down with a head cam :?:

I'm sure some of you will correct me if I'm wrong

I think the difference is that bell is skiing at rather faster speeds than I would ski, normally you would be be filming other people so by turning the view finder up wards you can take some real good movie, but each to his own 8)

All, I wanted to upload a clip from the X170 thingy, but evidently you need to host the clip somewhere other than the harddrive, bla, bla - too complicated!

Its very good though, as long as you take a minute to get it aligned to your own line of sight, it seems to avoid the skyshots very well. I'm really pleased with it and the 170deg wide angle lens helps too. Definitely better than holding the digicam in a wayward left hand.

There's a review here http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/X170

PS - planning a few days in Serfaus in March, anyone been there?

I'd be honoured, apart from the fact that I am not going to go back to Niederau so it may prove difficult. Hence why I suggested Jan.
