Below 50 sq metres, the innkeeper can decide. There is very little in the way of employee protection. Any bans on smoking is regularly flouted.

Like Bandit, I used to go down to a local pub. Came one very smoky night, I walked round, and everyone in the pub was smoking. Put down my pint and didn't go back for two years. Now, I only go every couple of weeks, just because there is a music night.

I was out one night away from home on business went for a meal and a couple of pints, now remembering this is post smoking ban, the stink from sweaty bodys in the bar was absolutely disgusting.

As an ex smoker, I can only go by what I felt and noticed. And that was no nasty smelling clothes or fingers, amongst other things of course.

Personally, I think that smoking should be banned worldwide 100%, but seeing as it isnt, smokers should be allowed places to smoke and it should be up to the owner of the bar/restaurant if they allowed it or not. If that was the case, I would simply avoid the places where it was allowed so I dont stink in the morning, but allow those who do enjoy a cig to have somewhere to go. Simples.

That's always been my view Tony! The way I see it is if the non smoker/smoker ratio is 70%/30% (for example) then bars (where people like to smoke most) should be 70% non smoking, 30% smoking...It could easily be controlled by liscensing. I can't see why they went for total ban in bars, especially ski resorts where temperatures fall into minus figures.

I upset an Austrian youth last year who thought it cool to light up in the bubble in spite of non-smoking signs.

Looked back at me smugly when I pointed to the no smoking notice.
Looked less smug when I flicked it out of his mouth!
