Hi dixie dean.
My suggestion is to speak to someone in a shop, where you can explain how you like to ski, how you want to progress etc. They can also see your size and weight, then hire a set of what they suggest. See how you get on, and if needed swap them for another set. Most good resort shops will allow you to do this and then discount the hire cost against the ski purchase cost.
For what it's worth, I like Volkl Skis as well for pure piste bashing, especially the racetigers. But I am a big guy, at nearly 110 kilos, so need something a bit stiff. However, the Atomic Crimsons are also a good Ski for me, and allow more variety in where I go without struggling. So it really can be down to lots of different factors, most of which are personal to you.
TBH unless I was going to be doing more than 3 weeks a year, I prefer to hire. That way, I can get skis suited to the snow conditions, resort type and how I feel like skiing. I never have the same skis for a week, and will always swap at least once, so I feel I get the better deal.
Hope that helps.

Can't help you on the men's skis I'm afraid, but I absolutely love my K2 One Luvs. I've had them for 3 years, I'm a comfortable intermediate skier, don't do off piste.
They've coped brilliantly with icy golfballs in Canada, deep powder last week in Chamonix, are fab at speed, and they've also survived Scotland :D
