Thanks for all the advice. Just found somewhere I can rent snow chains for €17 per week so will do that. Good point about packing a shovel as well.
Can't wait now, just under two weeks to go.
Am going to an indoor slope in Amnéville for a bit warm-up this week. Also looking to see if there's any fairly close real slopes too. Have come up with Les Vosges in France and a couple in Belgium so far!
