Hi guys

We are also off to Scheffau on 18th December, this will be the first white xmas ever for my kids! I have been eyeing the webcams almost hourly and the chalet owner has just posted pics on her website taken last weekend at top of Brandstadl lift. Looks like plenty of snow and she has told me they can cover 110kms of piste in just 3 days so I am starting to relax as we normally go to Austria mid Feb when there is plenty of snow and we havve not been to Scheffau/Ellmau before.

One question - I have been looking at the piste map and it seems quite complicated - anyone know how to get around the mountain easily? We will have 3 kids in tow ages 7 11 and 12 who can ski most runs no problem but for the first few days would like nice cruisy blues and reds to get our ski legs back.

thanks

When in resort you will notice signage for different circuits around the Skiwelt. These circuits can be done in a clockwise or anticlockwise direction over many km of piste returning you to your start position. The Salve Circuit is made up of red & blue runs encompassing the ski regions of Brixen im Thale, Hopfgarten, Itter & Soll, simply follow the yellow arrows (12.8km of skiing). The Kaiser Circuit is again made up of red & blue runs encompassing Brixen im Thale, Scheffau, Ellmau & Going this time follow the orange arrows (19.7km skiing). If the circuits are to long just break them down & do over several days with plenty of rest stops.

Thanks Finn, excellent advice there. This will make life much more simple and avoid the domestics with the husband over the piste map at the lifts

Great info Finn. I repeatedly describe the piste map as "the worst in the world", although, I clearly don't know that.

I had a day there skiing with Admin last year, he cruised down the black runs, while at the same time, reading the piste map with one eye, his J2 ski messages with other, and texting in admonishments to J2 skiers. :-o

Dave, I bought one of the new skiwelt 3D piste maps the last time I was out there, pretty good maps for a couple euros. Makes the area much easier to interpret.
