The Swiss rental companies seem to have variable standards when it comes to in-car kit. If you are renting from the Swiss side, and driving to France, you will need a Day-Glo Vest. It's not law in Switzerland to have them in the car....but it is in France  Always take your own!
Not all hire cars will have chains in the boot, and the Swiss now seem to be charging as an extra for the winter tyres which were on the car anyway :x
Makes me wonder if they are going over to Ryanair style menu pricing, as in......How many wheels would sir like on the car?

To reiterate the above, I rented at Geneva (Swiss) last year. Car came with winter tyres but not snow chains.
I wasn't charged for the winter tyres, but other companies do charge even though all cars have them fitted. So you'll definitely have winter tyres and may or may not pay for them. You may have chains in the car but I think it's unlikely.
