Saalbach is excellent. Beautiful scenery, lots of long runs with continuous steepness so not many flats as it often happens in other resorts, plenty of modern chairs and gondolas. And apres-ski - just out of this world. Mountain huts and food is also very good and reasonably priced.
Yes, the resort is fairly low, but Austria is normally colder than France and Saalbach have a very good snow record. I was there in a very bad year – late March 2007 and there was plenty of snow. Only the lower parts had some bare patches but all the runs were open.
However last 2 seasons were exceptionally good in terms of snow for this part of Austria.
I went to Saalbach after two trips to France and was shocked how good this place is. Highly recommended.

Hi Tom welcome to the J2ski mad house, to your point well part of it, price is relative to what you can afford to pay, can you give us some actual on mountain prices for perhaps beer and a meal so us averagely paid people can make a balanced judgement on if the resort prices are affordable to our pockets. 8) 8)
Tom, Welcome to J2ski. This is an excellent report. Have been in the Glemm valley for summer walking, and it is on our radar for this winter. It does seem an expensive place to stay though.
Mountain prices are pretty similar to other Austrian locations. ie very reasonable.

Good point, I can not remember Saalbach prices from 2 years ago I'm afraid - well too much apres ski :D
However, this March I was not that far away in Flachau, Wagrain and Zauchensee, and a pint of beer cost from 3 to 4 Euros at most in bars and mountain huts. Local main dishes probably started at around 6-7 Euros (like Tyrolean Grostl).
Saalbach might be slightly more expesnive, but shouldn't be much difference I think.

I was in Saalbach ski-ing 37 years ago on a school trip. I thought it was great. Masses of snow everywhere. However, my info is slightly out of date now!

That snow's gotta be a good sign for next winter; was thinking of coming here myself, will keep an eye on how it develops.
