Dave Mac wrote:The solution to PWS is to go to your favourite resort in the summer. It's still the same friendly folk. Alpine walking builds up the muscles that medically counteract PWS. The end result is that you feel alpine. You have met with German/French like-mindeds. Tasted the beer.

Then, you could take palliative action. Leave a copy of the Thomsons ski brochure on the table in the bathroom, ready for every convenient occasion. Replace with First Choice in June, and Inghams in July. By September, mild panic will be setting in, if you are not yet booked.

I am content.

It won't work for me, as our bathroom is too small for a table :D

I have been suffering from PWS and it has now been made worse by the fact that I am in Ushuaia surrounded by snow capped mountains but the local ski resort, Cerro Castor, doesn't open for another 19 days by which time I will be in Patagonia.

Also I will be crossing the Andes and more specifically through Portillo two weeks too early for the ski season!!! Its killing me :!:

I couldn't agree more that I need to get some powder whilst I'm out here but circumstances are currently conspiring against me but I still have skiing in New Zealand

Although all hope is not lost if I can convince my mate to speed our traveling up a bit so that we hit Ecuador a week or so early and I can then change my flights giving me a few days to get to Portillo or another resort near Santiago.

Just looking at these snowy mountains is killing me...... :(

I waited for ages. I really expected Pablo "lightning" Escobar to have come right back with a pic of an Inghams brochure, hung on a nail, next to the bog roll. You just can't get the staff. Bl...y South Americans.

Brimster,
Normally, you only get one chance at these things. So forget your mate. Meet in NZ.

I had a bit of a laugh with Pablo about our different experiences skiing in Australia. (I didn't have rich parents, though)

When you are an old fart like me, what a delight to be able to say, "Course when I was skiing down the Cotopaxi glacier, back in the 2000's.... blah-di-blah... you will retain your street cred forever. Your grandchildren will frame the photos.

Go to Quito, do not pass go.

I am a very happy girl. A quick trip into the local tourist information centre told me that if I walk an hr and a half out of town up the mountain towards the glacier there is every possibility that I will be able to rent some gear and strap on some skis (well the guy said snowboard but I'm reckoning if they do a snowboard they can do skis!!)

I couldn't agree with you more Dave Mac that you often only get to do these things once. I leave my mate in Quito so the skiing in New Zealand is not even an issue. I have had to work hard for the past 8 years to get myself where I am now and I am determined to make the most of it all as I will soon be sat back behind that desk dreaming of these days...

I don't believe in having regrets however I don't want to look back and be disappointed that I didn't do it. Also to say I skied in four continents in 12 months would be amazing!! 8)
