On catching the ferry from Dover, we were pre warned with all the information. We were advised to have the hi-vis jacket visible while driving too.

Whilst on a summer holiday the general concensus amongst locals and expats was that you had to have at least two jackets (even if your in the car on your own) and they should be visible from the outside of the car - hence most people fitted them to the back of the driver and passenger seats.

Maybe the jacket per passenger rule only applies to those driving BMWs!!
