He was a professional skier doing his job, it's not dangerous as he skied to his skill level, and what look like stunts are carefully researched. Mountains are unforgiving places, and many accidents happen at all levels.
He died because his equipment malfunctioned, which IMV is tragic.

That's incredible ski-ing! He does look like the stunt man for James Bond, but it looks awfully dangerous. Poor him, dying like that.
