Hi guys
we go to Kitzbuhel every year and love it. One of the main reasons is our childrens school take the kids there before half term so we get to go for two weeks so we are already there to pick them up when the rest of the school goes back to UAE. The kids then spend the second week with us.
My children have all learned to ski there and we have stayed at a few different places. We have never had a problem with lack of snow and this year skiied all the way back to our hotel every night ( a decent red run though)
We do tend to prefer to ski Kitzbuhler Horn because of the nice long runs for the kids and less people. The queues getting on the main gondola can be horrific at half term too on the Kitzbuhel side of the mountain.
The nightlife is there if you want it but with 3 kids the most we do is walk into town for a few Jaegermeisters and gluweins before dinner at Chizzos, an outside bar in the pedestrian area (with heaters) great music too as the barman is also a dj and does his own mixes.
The shopping is great, my first stop is always at Prader for a new something or other and the kids always need new gloves every year.
We are taking friend with us this year and only one of them is a skier. The hubby and 2 kids will be in ski school which we have found very good for our kids.
All in all I have thought about staying elsewhere but always end up back in Kitzbuhel. This year we did spend a first great week in
Niederau with jan at the Auhof, great place too, as it was close to Kitzbuhel for us to pick up our daughter.
To stop waffling on:
Never had a problem with snow in the last four years
Plenty of beginners and intermediate runs
Good restaurants, on and off mountain, shopping, entertainment for the kids
Acommodation for all budgets
Downside is make sure you map where you are staying as some accom can be a bit too far to walk in boots, though the Hahnenkamm gondola has storage
Don't go race week unless you are a downhill race fan - that would be the only time I would avoid it
Go see for yourself
