Unfortunately the horses have gone on strike too much snow, so it looks like Mrs W is not going to get her sleigh ride, but don't worry the old wickham charm has come into use and I have made sure Mrs W has had a wonderful holiday and ski experience that she will never forget.

Ok it's 09.21 breakfast has been enjoyed at present we are listening to the noise of the guns sorting out the avalanche dangers it is still snowing and visibility is really poor so poor in fact we are not going to ski till lunch time.
I took about two feet of snow off the car yesterday and guess what is all back again, so we will go for a walk and do coffee and strudel till the weather clears, its a hard life. People in the hotel do not seem to get till late but i guess thats old people for you.
Some of the celebrities we have in the hotel are Old posh & beck's who always decant their wine or the waiter does, Al fayad the spitting image of who looks like he is on his last legs, and Benny Hill a slimmer version but a dead ringer so remember wicker's a friend of the stars.

I love it when its snowy and vis isnt great as most people do what Ian does and not bother going up until later, if at all. The 2 days in Serre Che it snowed it was blissfully quite on the slopes, and gradually as the day went on they opened more lifts so we could ski anywhere. Of course, the people who stayed in resort werent aware of this! I dont mind not being able to see so well. My mate Skidaddle and his OH are what I would call fair weather skiers, and dont really enjoy it when its snowing. I always manage to ski first to last lift no matter what the conditions, although some places are best avoided if the wind is howling.

Ian, thanks for the details thus far. I have now taken Adelboden off next years "possibles" list.
However, make sure you make the most of the time there, no matter what the weather, as like was said earlier, a skiing day is better than a non skiing day.

I am sure you will manage to get that romantic candlelit meal for 2 this week, horses or no horses.

Enjoy.

You picked the wrong week, you should have gone out 21st Feb, 3 days of constant snowing which resulted in powder snow and then 3 days of fantastic sunshine - I loved it. I will allow you the fact that Adelboden does cater for a more gentile generation, but also you are not bothered by chavs, hoards of kids and other low life (sorry if any of you reading this fall into this category by the way!)and people are generally well behaved and pleasant, whatever nationality they are (it is quite an international clientele there, a lot of people come up from Berne). I had a fab week there but then I was up at Our Chalet on the mountainside and not staying down in the village, which is not that sprawling really (unless you are constantly walking around in ski boots). The Bernese Oberland is renowned for its historical connections with the beginnings of skiing and sometimes some of the clientele reflect this (were they about then??) I have to say I was one of the younger ones on our flight out (and I am leaning towards late 40's!)

I did think some of the runs were perhaps not marked correctly (blue 46 with the hazard sign before the drop made me slow up a bit!) but I was happy on the cruisey blues and easier reds, and always found somewhere nice to sit for a drink and a chill out. Also the different areas do make for a challenge, but again we had access to OC's minibus.

The snow has been awesome this year, the best for 30 years we were told, and I have the pictures to prove it - the Adelboden webcam has been a grey blur all week, so sorry for nicking your sunshine and views! I will try and post some on here, so you can see what you missed!

There is no one ski resort to suit everyone, you have to try a variety to see what suits you, your pocket (particularly this year!) and your ability, as well as everyone else in your party. This is what makes reading this forum so interesting (and great fun!).

Hope you managed an Ovomaltine and a large cake! :D :D :D
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

I am shocked at being called a fair weather skier  the weather has not only been snow but there has been very low cloud and it comes to point where common sense prevails where you cannot see the edges of the piste,
there might not be huge drops to the side but enough to do you some damage. so I like to think that I'm not a fair weather skier but a sensible one.

Back onto today again another boring day of powder  , today it stopped snowing at about 10 am and shock horror the sun came out visibility fantastic, but still blowing hard at the top though, but we were greeted by beautiful powder and sunshine so we finished off a few untracked runs and then onto the off piste.
But again as previously stated the areas are linked by silly baby drags, busses, and very flat blues, this can be very frustrating as I really enjoying going some where when I ski from A to B and then onto C, but here you can ski from A to B but then get the bus to C a real pain.
It's true there are few Brits two other couples in the hotel but a good mix of nationalities service is excellent and the food first class five course dinner including a fondu tonight, I think a diet when I get home might be a good idea.
Now I must go and pack our boots and skis as tomorrow is bye bye time, I'm sad in one way but we have really missed Little W and it seems so strange without her still should get a great welcome back tomorrow. 8) 8)
