I read this article in the FT a couple of weeks ago about skiing in County Durham:

That ski slope is near to the slope I use, they must have more money as we are still using a tow rope.
Yeah that is right, you do have to walk before you ski. You can see the ski run from the road but be prepared for more than a gentle walk. Think of it as a warm up!
The roads are generally clear. Durham council have a snow blower machine that cuts through snow when it's really deep. I have seen it drift in places deeper than the car as it is very exposed. I must admit that I haven't seen it like that in a few years. Fingers crossed that it will be like that this weekend.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity

Very tempted to give it a go on Sunday, 'though not sure if my Ford Fiesta will cope if the roads are a bit iffy. :D
I'll maybe keep an eye on the weather forecast before making a decision.

There are quite a few well-organised ski areas in the north of England (Lake District, Allenheads, Yad Moss and Carlisle) and all of them have updated websites, webcams, weather reports etc.
And today I have just added a new run: the back hill from Summer Street down to the Slad Valley, just outside Stroud, Glos.
Quite a hike up - but a real laugh ski-ing past the sledgers!
