St. Anton off piste

I would have to say that taking a guide for off piste in St Anton would have been a huge waste of money. We found plenty to go at, albeit hardly in fresh powder after a week of cold temps and bright sun, but there was simply tons of it to go at over there. Anyone who finds a huge snowfall overnight in St Anton will be in heaven.

I would probably not do some of the stuff we did if conditions and visibility had not been good to be honest, and from what I saw of the ski guiding, most of it was all about flying down as fast as possible and not taking in the scenery and having some fun.

Go with a group of competent skiers, and enjoy it. But dont forget the seriousness of offpiste skiing and BE CAREFUL.

Another vote for Piste to Powder, that's Graham Austick's outfit and they're very good. There's some serious off-piste around the area both in terms of technical difficulty and access and you would need to use a guide to get into that. There's an amount of more accessible stuff, around Stuben was a favourite of mine, where the normal precautions are required but you'd not need a guide and there's a number of fun ski itineraries which obviously get skied out pretty quick.

Possibly the best off piste in the area is off the back of the Valluga for which a guide is compulsory or they won't let you take kit onto the top lift section. It's a an amazing start on a steep slope and you ski back into Zurs. Highly recommended!

Yep, Obergurgl in a fortnight and N in March. Somehow I don't expect either trip to be as adrenalin fueled as Stanton. :D

I just want to say that Ellistine was doing Jaegerbombs, shots, pints, red vodka, and wine and then flying down off piste and moguls the next morning without any assistance from anyone else.
