The 3 of us who took ski bags all had bags weighing between 8 and 12kg and the ladies on the check-in desks (both in Manchester and Turin) didn't bat an eyelid. It seems strange that their policy wording says 6kg but in reality they don't bother to check. Maybe its just so not too many people take very heavy bags.

I have been posting to this effect for some time now. Monarch, First Choice and Thomas Cook never weigh or query ski bags.
I dont know what the crack with Thomson Fly is.

Easyjet and Ryanair in particular are a different kettle of fish altogether, and I would never use them for a ski trip given a choice.

On a slightly different note, Turin airport is rubbish!
3 flights from different english airports all landed at the same time with at least 100 people waiting for ski/board bags. The outsize luggage area is a single conveyer belt that just comes out of the wall (not in a loop). This means that if the 8 ski bags on the belt don't belong to someone stood there, the rest of the bags don't come out until they have all been claimed. People were also not willing to pick up the bags and prop them against the wall so that more bags could be sent out. This mess cost us our sunday afternoon skiing which was rubbish.
Haha. One of my first posts on this forum was exactly about this. If you search Turin Airport thread you will see what I said about it.
Its actually very funny watching what goes on at Turin!!!

thought i would post this here and hope for a reply instead of starting a new thread and potentially re-opening this can of worms! oh and i know its not strictly ski related but the knowledge is far superior on here than elsewhere....
Im flying home in july to NI and need to take my kilt. I want to take it on as hand luggage as well as a bag-does anyone know if this is possible?
Cheers

As far as I know its just one piece of hand luggage per person. Ladies can not get away with a handbag and a cabin sized bag.
I have it sorted now, I bought a rucksack sized cabin bag with two compartments. I put every-thing I want for the flight in my hand bag, slip the handbag into one compartment and just take bag out when the rucksack goes in the overhead compartment.

I witnessed a kilt-wearer attempting to go through security at Munich. The sporran was off, along with the Skean Dhu, the Prince Charlie, Belt and dance shoes.

Hans ordered the removal of the kilt. A quick word in his ear by said kilt wearer resulted in a change of heart.

Obviously, a true Scot!
