I would take Genevris response with a pinch of salt if I were you.
I have stopped in Sauze twice. Why: because its bloody cheap!
The skiing in Sauze was brilliant, we loved the long cruisy runs at the top and through the trees. But there is good skiing, in fact BETTER skiing over at Sestriere. We ended up going over there almost every day, the link from the top of Sauze to the bottom of the Banchetta will take around 45 minutes, and the same to get back, so dont get caught after the lifts shut. We tended to have an hour or 2 in Sauze, take the link at around 10.30/11, go up the main area in Sestriere for a couple of runs, have lunch at the cafe at the bottom, ski across to the other area nearer the Olympic village for an hour or so, and head back on the gondola back towards Sauze before 3 at the latest. That way, you can ski an hour back in Sauze usually.
Sestriere as a town and place to stay is definitely not as nice as Sauze, but dont be put off heading over there - the skiing is good, and is different to Sauze. Well worth a few days over.
From the top at Sauze, follow the signs over the back to Sestriere. The 1 man chair often isnt open, so ski down to the new 4 man, and take that up to the Gondola which takes you down all the way. DONT get off halfway, or try and ski the itinery route, it takes forever and isnt enjoyable! The Gondola is very old, like a load of Fiat 500's hanging from a cable!!!
Make sure you do the Banchetta from top to bottom, the Olympic run, over at Sestriere.
You'll have a great time with all that snow there, although the bus jounrey up to Sauze could be interesting!!!!!
