My 15 year old son had outgrown his helmet when we went last year. We started out on the 1st day without one as we could not find one and were in a hurry to get on the slopes. He had never been without a helmet before - having been a member of the local dry slope team it was compulsory and anyway, everyone wore one.
For the 1st part of the day he was quite happy, he enjoyed the freedom. As he got used to his new skis though and got faster & more confident, he realised the importance of wearing one. The speeds are so We bought him one that evening. And I don't think he'll ever go without again.
My 20 year old nephew had a very nasty head injury last year - no helmet. It invloved a trip to the hospital and a few days off.
He will look cooler and they'll help keep his head warm.

I really do not think there will be a problem she has skied with a helmet since the age of three and knows nothing different, If she complains she does not ski, easy.

My children have never skied without helmets so the topic doesn't come up often and when it does the fact that I also wear one means that they have no grounds for complaint. So if you are not wearing one yourself I suggest you do. I wear specs and use googles over the top and I find it is much easier wearing goggles with a helmet and it is warmer on cold lifts and fast descents so I am in favour irrespective of the safety benefits.

I did wear a helmet, all the kids in his group weren't though, which doesn't help. We are going with another family and their son doesn't want to wear one, which is the main problem

When I was younger my parents made me wear one whether or not I protested or the other kids didn't have them. I was wearing it and that was the end of it.. now a few years on I just wear it out of choice..

I don't wear a helmet, but I would ensure my daughter wears one till she is 18, well thats the plan

IMHO
Adults not wearing helmets - evolution at work
Children not wearing helmets - child endangerment
If trying to convince a child to wear a helmet, one only has to look at all the top snowboarders for an example. Also it is a fact that you learn more slowly if you are frightened to fall. Does the child want to be a slow learner ?
But as mentioned above, the single best way to get kids to wear helmets is for parents to wear them. Failing that, a day in the creche with all the babies should make the sacrifice to cool worth while.
