Also if finances allow it might be better to have private tuition rather than group sessions. My son is a tennis coach and has one lad with autism and one with ADHD, when they have group sessions they do not progress very well and are upset by what the other kids do, and do not like it if he gives attention to other kids. When they have a private 1 to one with him they play as if they have no probs at all.
I'm a laydee

I know this is completely off-thread but I thought this article about surfing and autism might be of some interest!

Good luck

Guys, again many thanks for your ideas. Jonah - it would be great if you friend was ableto help or suggest someone who can. We are based in Champerey so provided the pass is open easy enough to drive over to Chatel or for someone to ski over from Avoriaz.

Thanks for the article of surfing. We live in Bahrain - there aren't any waves but there is plenty of sea. Will try some wake boarding - I think he'll like it; stupid that I'd never thought of it.......

Our boy has Aspergers Syndrome but has become a good skier after only four snow holidays: indeed it is remarkable how quickly he picked up the sport. I'd highly recommend the investment of a private instructor at least for the initial two holidays: many of the instructors in France and Austria we have found to be qualified school teachers filling in holidays for extra cash, so it has not been difficult to ask at the ski schools for an instructor with SEN experience and they've always come up with someone suitable. Our routine tended to be two hours one-to-one in the mornings and then skiing with Mum and Dad in the afternoons. The last holiday we started the first day with a one-to-one tutor and then had no problem moving our boy to a small class of three kids given the skills progress that had been made. Just explain everything to the coordinator at the ski school. Clothing issues aren't a problem once these kids take to the sport.

Hi
i am looking to take a small group (6 students) of EBD/Asberger students,& 3 staff skiing next Easter (2010) but am finding it difficult to keep costs down. Are there bursaries available to support these kids, all from low income families?

Hi there

Why not have a look at http://www.skiing4all.com? It is run by a British Psychologist and Ski Instructor in Zell am See, Austria, specifically for children and adults with Autism, Down's Syndrome, ADHD and other learning disabiities.

Best wishes

Anna
