I may be wrong but I thought lessons in austria were generally two hours in the morning, an hour for lunch and then another two hours in the afternoon?

Lessons are usualy a couple of hours in the morning for 4 or 5 days, if you haven't booked anything check snowguru.com, they list english speaking instructors, if there isn't one listed then they will find you one. You can't have too many lessons when you start out.

Let me know if you want to meet up for a beer when you arw out there. Drop me a PM. Always good to meet people. And have a beer.
As for beginners, I dont know how St Anton compares, but I do know it has a lot of very exciting and interesting terrain for good intermediate and more advanced skiers, and is somewhere every skier says they have to go at least once in their life. You are spoiling yourself with this first trip alright!
As for lift passes, the Euro HAS to weaken against the pound, so I'd wait and get it in resort to be honest. Thats what I normally do. Having said that, we have pre paid for ours as they were 2 for the price of 1 if bought as part of the package. Thats what they call a no brainer, I think.
