First snow in Scotland!

Hi there, I have been all over europe and the states but never been to scotland. Im not expecting miracles, yet i relaly want to ski in GB.was wondering how reliable the snow actually is, for example cold i pre-book time off work to go and actually ski when i get there?. or would i have to pay close attention to the snow reports ? wold appreciate some help. cheers
