For someone who likes to buy branded clothing, I actually use Primarks thermals vests and longjohns. They are £2.50 each, and I have got so used to wearing them under sallopettes, that I almost feel naked without them. I have never had an issue with them, although I always wear CK boxers under the longjohns as well.
I have to be honest and say that in recent years, I have often felt too warm with thermals, and quite often now dont wear any at all, but would definitely do so in Norway, Canada, etc.

Warm, breezy and comfy on the wee fella.

Cotton underwear...Cotton trackies

Heathens

It's a fact that damp cotton will feel cold when worn, and will also retain the moisture created by perspiration.
Modern wicking materials move perspiration to the outside of the material keeping the skin dry.

tino, your Spyder kit is a breathable fabric, and by wearing cotton trackies as a base layer you are preventing the fabric from working for you )

Rose and hubby are heading to Finland. It's not going to be much fun if his underwear freezes to the skin in his nether regions

BTW When skiing in very cold weather in Colorado many years ago, I had a fleece muffler freeze onto my face. It hurt. The icing was caused solely by my breathing into the muffler because my teeth were aching in the cold.

My legs tend not to sweat to be honest, I don't think they ever have. This is either very good news or quite disturbing.

Most of snowboarding is in the upper body anyway.

Never get achy legs, but wake up the next day with tight muscles across my back and shoulders.

My legs dont sweat either.
As for aches and pains, my knees feel it most, but I use a sport muscle rub to ease that. I also apply this in the morning to my quads and calves, to prevent them from tightening up or aching. I would like to say they dont, but I would be lying.

I just wear boxers with some North Face thermal long john type things. Never had a problem with them )

Just salopettes over them and i've always been warm, even on the coldest windiest days in Big White!

I find my lower half heats up too much with thermals. Even down to -20 I never found the need for them when skiing as long as the ski pants are nicely insulated. Sometimes when walking in the cold I do use them, but usually only under relatively light pants.

How cold it has to be for you to use termals? I thought one would only use that when it's really really cold.

I have used them when its minus 19 and I was starting to feel a little chilly on the chairlift. But skiing about at those temps, you will be fine.
If its sunny and pleasant, and around the usual alp temps of between 0c and -8c that I am used to, you will probably find that you wont need themas long as you have insultaed jacket and sallopettes.

:DHi,

I suppose it depends on how much you feel the cold?,i have worn the same kit for most of my skiing life, a pair of Fusalp Salopettes which are fleece lined and a Berghaus Fleece half zip top witha Gore-Tex lining and only wer a thin t-shirt or thin long sleeved top underneath, and this allows me to be dry and comfortable in all weathers.

With regards to thermals i think the main problem with them is the sweat thing so you begin to get an uncofortable rash :(.

A while back i posted a thread about clothing you can now purchase made from Bamboo and that you can get thermals made from the same stuff, and apparently it is much, much better than conventional materials for keeping you comfortable and dry.

Have a butchers at the site

All the best :D
