All I can say is you had to be there at the time :D It doesn't matter. Anybody else have any views on choosing between chalets and hotels?

Dont think I could do the chalet thing, we like our privacy too much, besides my hubby snores so much he would really pee every-one else off, I have to wear ear plugs on occasions. But then again they might all move out and leave the chalet to us. Plus I like my own loo, bath and shower.

I've been in 3 different chalets and have never had to share a bathroom or heard what was going on in the next room. Oh, apart from the time when our mate came in totally bladdered and knocked the wardrobe over!

Chalets all the way for me :D

I imagine he means chalet, actually, but never mind.

In my 8 or 9 weeks skiing, I've only stayed in a hotel once. As I usually go in a large group, I much preferred the chalet environment, though that being said, other than one year, we've always filled the chalet in question. I enjoy the social areas present in chalets more so than hotels, and the price difference is often rather substantial. So my vote would go for the chalet.

I would love to try a chalet but still think I would only be happy if it was full of people we know, I am still wary of getting with a crowd of people I just dont get on with, or a rowdy group of lads, or people with naughty children. I imagine its great if you all go with children, if the kiddies are in bed the adults can still have fun without worrying about sitters. If I had been ski-ing when mine were young this would have been great.
Our first ski holiday was in a hotel at Axamer Lizum and there were 100 french students staying there, they got drunk and rampaged the hotel every night, also at meal times we were on a table with all the other couples, we all used to have polite chat about the days ski, weather etc but it was all so strained you could tell we all had nothing in common. Thats why I have always been wary, thats why next year we wanted different from hotel, but just cant quite make the decision for a chalet. So have opted for a log cabin to ourselves.

Karen72 I don't think you have missed anything. However ellistine may have missed the small point that the thread has been started by a poster who is Portugese, so perfect written english may not be a given.

Fair point but surely it's better to be told of ones mistakes (karren72, the thread was originally referring to Chattel)

Anyway, I reckon the decision between chalets and hotels has a lot to do with your personality. What I mean is that some people like the relative anonymity of hotels where as other like the more relaxed intermingling of a chalet. My girlfried is more of the travelling type than myself and has no problems staying in youth hostel dorm's or in chalets. I'm fairly shy as a person so prefer hotels over chalets.

What a big misunderstanding.

I misspelled chalet to start with and after Ellistine mention it I amended the post, that's why no one saw the error.
Ellistine thanks for correcting me I apreciatte.

Now back to the topic,

A medium sized chalet, (20-30 pax) would be like a small hotel, without being so formal no? When I imagine ski I think of mountains and log cabins, so the idea of a massive building (hotel) doesn't appeal to me. But I can see why some people would choose an Hotel, your privacy is more guarded.
