Trains in Europe are simple, clean and efficient (UK excluded)
Booked well in advance you can get from Munich airport to Mayrhofen in about 3 hours for less than 50 USD, that is return.
I use this route travelling from Kasrlsruhe to Mayrhofen, Karlsruhe is 3 hours north-west of Munich by train, and I have had fares for as little as 110 USD return.

Note, probably 2.43 USD a litre not the gallon measurement you are used to.
