thanks a lot folks, plenty of encouragement here.

And thanks PJheystack for your travel tips - this could be the most difficult part as I can't be bothered hirning a car so we need to find a destination (glacier) within striking distance of an airport receiving flights from UK in early Decmeber!

cheers in anticipation of more nuggets,

Filzmoos in Austria is in the Ski Amade, and within a short drive of the Dachstein Glacier. However Filzmoos itself has just had a massive dump of snow and its not over yet. They currently have 110cms in the valley (at 1060m) and 160cms up top (1650m). Not open yet but SHOULD be soon!! Thats already better than the highest they had last year, and its only Nov!!

Im very jealous of you lucky people living in the Alps!

Ok, fair point... should have said Eastern Switzerland perhaps...

Verbier and Les Diablerets should be open this weekend - and I'd assume a fair few of the smaller resorts too; any of your local hills opening ise?

SLF are now saying

Cold though here, down to -15' overnight and around -11' now.

I live in the middle of ~Ski Amade - 45 mins from Salzburg. We have had loads of snow. Schladming has been open since 26th October, Reiteralm is also open and had the World Cup there a couple of weekends ago.

Zauchensee and Flachau opened last weekend. Loads of deep powder and loads of fun. :D

I'd suggest you stay in Scotland and hike, catch a few more munros perhaps! Who knows might even have some snow by then!

Get a cheap flight to Salzburg and head for Ramsau.

Apparantly they have 360cms already!!

(and no haggis lurking in the heather.)
