Hi, I live in Niederau and I think SkiGirl has it about perfect! The ski school is very flexible and personable so shifting classes is not a problem.
The hotel Austria is the only 4* hotel in Niederau, has a swimming pool and is directly opposite the slopes so that?s perfect. Do be aware that in Austria (not just Niederau) the church bells will ring early in the morning!
My one hesitation is the level of shopping / non-ski activity for an expectant mother. The bus runs along the valley to Oberau and there are some good shops there or you can go down the hill to Worgl which is a town with all the modern shops you could need!
If you are happy with swimming and reading I think you will be very happy.
As for eating there are lots of very good hotel restaurants within Niederau and the Austria has one of the better ones or there is the Hotel Simmerlwirt which has a great non-smoking restaurant.
Oh and for interest it is snowing today and we have about 50cm at the top !! Who says low resorts don?t get snow, and it?s only September! Bring on the winter !!!
Any questions, just shout!

Hi,
With cheapairline you can fly to Kaerten to Klagenfurt, and there you have good connections to Austrian ski resorts. Or you might go to Slovenia, where Ryan Air flies to Maribor. Maribor is also 2nd capital city of Slovenia and has planty non - skiing acitivities.

Glad to hear it snowing in Niederau! The snow can only improve from last year. How nice to hear from someone who lives there - my hubby and I absolutely love it. We only learnt to ski a couple of years ago in Niederau and are hooked. The church bells - ha! They rang so often and apparently randomly we asked our ski instructor Christina (she also lives in Niederau - her mum is the English artist) to explain it!

I also forgot to mention that I think you can fly direct to Salzburg in Austria from Dublin if you are thinking of booking your ski hol direct. I'm pretty sure there are no direct flights to Austria from Belfast. You can fly with EasyJet from Belfast to Geneva - I think there are quite a few high altitude French ski resorts within 1-2 hrs of Geneva airport.

Hi Darren
With flights to Geneva you can access the Portes du Soleil area in just over an our. There are tons of small companies offering a bespoke service in Morzine, Les Gets and the surrounding areas.
As a town in it's own right (as opposed to a purpose built ski resort) Morzine has a lot going on for the non skier too. Another nearby good place for non skiers is Chamonix, although I don't think the skiing really lends itself well to beginers.

i agree with oopalley.
Morzine is great -
*50 mins from Geneva
*a range of slopes (avoriaz at 1800m if the snow is poor lower down)
*access to the pistes for non skiers to meet for lunch
*nice hotels with pools and stuff (though depends on when you go as i tried for new year and they are all booked) some have saunas, pool tables, indoor cinema type things. try this link http://skisnowboardeurope.com/avoriazetmorzine/lodging.html for all the hotels listed and it tells you which ones have pools.
*picturesque town, lovely bars, restaurants, skating rink, ice hockey to watch, dog sledging - all sorts really!
morzine is an all year round town too so it's not purely set up around skiers and the rest of the group may find other activities not publised on ski websites.
good luck!
