Completed, but don't really get it. On cold days I would always end up still using a buff to cover ear and provide insulation around neck area. Pulling buff and down is a simple and effective solution.

I think helmets should have pull down sun visors like they do on motorbike helmets

A damp buff around the face is not ideal but is usually what i end up with on those particularly cold days or when the snow is being blown horizontally. I have looked at those new designs with the small grill over the mouth area to help breath escape and not make the fabric wet but don't know if they actually work? I am not sure i would buy a helmet specifically because it contained technology to solve this problem, as it is only a minor inconvenience and a quick stop for a coffee and to adjust buff so that the damp bit is at the back, soon sorts out any discomfort.

I would use something this for extreme cold protection only. I wear a balaclava designed for helmet use about 1/3 of the time. I much prefer not to, but becomes necessary when it gets cold. Frequently, it gets cold enough that any exposed skin not covered would freeze. We have many days below -20c with windchill's into the -40's. This design has too many opportunities for cold to still get at you. That link above from T.C. actually looks more practical.

That all said, the usual temps at the top of our mountain, winter months, is usually -5 to -15, then I agree, I'd rather have an open face if it's going to be warm.

Always follow the 20cm rule!
