Why is less English always good, what have we done??

I don't mean anything by it... In my eagerness to explain why Chatel perhaps I should explain.

Chatel is a much more French resort, so when on holiday in France it's nice to hear people speaking French and experience a culture that's more French orientated, Morzine is very Ex-pat heavy, so it's identity gets a little skewed, particularly on nights out it can get a little 'crazy'... no offence meant, just wanted to clarify that Chatel is more French cultured

We've spending 5 weeks in the Portes du Soleil area and eventually settled in Les Gets which we like the most.

Mountain addiction clearly has a drum to bang about chatel, and his point about it being more traditional than morzine is both valid and relevant, as some people might prefer the more authentic village atmosphere,
The fact that there are others who like to spread the British fish and chip eating beer swilling karaoke singing image around the globe and prefer other more "cosmopolitan" resorts is also relevant as again some people might prefer that kind of thing.
Having not been to either resort I reserve judgement, but I'm usually prepared to listen to those with local knowledge.

Chatel is a quite spread out town would not really call it a village not particularly quant but an Ok kind of place, the town has easy access to the rest of the PDS on one side of town and on the other side Super Chatel access to Switzerland.
The homeward bound pistes to village can get very hard due to the lack of sunshine and not a real place for tried legs, the easier piste down the mountain is at Plaine dranse but that means catching the ski bus back to town from Pre la Jour.
If you are staying at the Villapeyron end then restaurant choice is not is not great just a couple but both of a reasonable standard.
