Tell me about it!.....couple of years back I think our half term coincided with Bavaria half term......we landed at Munich at 10.15, left before mid day and arrived in Maria Alm(200km) at 7.15!....ski hire shop was closed, supermarket closed and not open Sundays either....was not a happy bunny.....still, all was forgotten by Sunday afternoon

Also every time I've driven to and from Munich it's been a dream!!! Late arrival helps a lot. Although we had an early one last year and that was great aswell. 2 hrs 15 and we were in leogang. We are having a late arrival on 1 st march, only four days skiing but a nice way to end the season!! ;)

Hi,
DO NOT drive on Austrian highways and toll roads without a - Vignette - Road Toll Sticker, not even one inch ! The Austrian police set up traps right after the border and the highway operator also make random checks at gas stations, the fine is stiff, they are merciless and heard it all before.
You can buy the sticker at any gas station in Germany close to the Austrian border.
Check this link http://www.asfinag.at/toll
The cost for the 8 day vignette is 8,50 €
You actually can avoid toll roads by driving via Mittenwald but this is not advisable in bad weather the road is very steep.

Just to be clear, if you are driving on the autobahn, from Munich towards the Inn valley, if you wish to avoid paying the vignette, you must come off the autobahn at, or before, Kufstein Sud.
Should you be driving towards the Wildschönau or towards Hopfgarten/Kitzbuhel this will hardly impact on time.
