You wouldn't like it at all Ian. Not a single French person there. Lively après, good wholesome mountain food, difficult slopes, and good snow to out you off
Good to hear your views on the place.
Yes it's quite a lively place for après, lots of banging bars like the ice bar.
I can't believe Brian Christopher is STILL playing there!!!!!!
You're right, as I said before its the sort of place you need to be up and out first thing to benefit.
Shame about the gondola problems. They really do need to find a new way to ski off penken mountain. I used to take the lift down from Herbert to avoid the queues but you then need the bus into town as you said.
Or ski down from eggalm and get the bus from finkenburg.
Great to hear they've got big snow there. I always seem to miss the big dumps

Back from Mayrhofen yesterday. Thanks to Tony H for the great advice all round. Well worth heeding his advice on getting up early to avoid the lift queues. Unfortunately I couldn't quite manage that myself so had to endure long waits at almost every lift I went on  Stayed at the Villa Strass which was a great location next to the Penkenbahn (even closer than the hotel itself) & we had a huge room at the back so nice & quiet with great views of the mountain. The weather wasn't the best for me - dare I say too much snow   It snowed most days (& a few nights) and I found the red runs more challenging than I expected with them being so "chopped up". Visibility was also poor and as someone who lacks a bit of confidence when I can't see where I'm going, getting about was hard work. That said I managed to get about on most of the runs Tony suggests & had a great couple of days going up the Tux 150 over to Rastkogel - lots of practice on the lovely blue & red 6 & red 2 then skiing to Heidi's Skistadle for lunch. My (brave!) OH enjoyed the Black 17 - whilst I enjoyed a Hot Chocolate waiting for him :) Après Ski, for us, was a bit disappointing - TBH probably 20 or even 30 years too old to make the most of it -) We like listening to live bands and, with the exception of Brian Christopher in the Sports Lounge we struggled to find anything else other than DJs playing loud music :!: 1 other downside to the week was the Penkenbahn breaking down at 4pm on Wednesday - 100s had to ski back to Horberg, queue for the lift & then the bus - took almost 2hrs to get back; then on Friday, it was working at half capacity  Overall though we both had a great week though I doubt we'll go back again - really do think that you need to be an early bird to get the most out of the area :-)
