We stayed at the Olymp a couple of years ago. Great place with little touches like a different chocolate left by our bedside each evening! We even managed to get a room with its own mini sauna cabin! Food was excellent and in vast quantities, plus there is soup/cake/hot dogs etc each teatime in their adjoining Hutte (Toni's Hutte I think). There is a swimming pool for burning off any excess calories though.
I think there is night skiing a couple of times a week in Hochgurgl but really not much else as it is a collection of 5 or 6 really smart hotels but no shops apart from ski hire. The Spar in Obergurgl has just about everything though.

Thanks. I believe there's officially 100km of marked piste which means its reasonably sized but I imagine many hungry strong intermediate skiers would suggest its on the small side, That doesn't make those people jerks, but I get your point about the point of skiing in general. There's only 1 place I've been when you can genuinely claim to have skied it in a day, nay a couple of hours.
I do know people who go to obergurgl every year mid April and often rave about skiing on fresh powder. I know it's high and snow sure which would be the attraction, along with quality accommodation for those who take that part seriously as part of their experience. I'd prefer to try ischgl or solder first though personally.
Maybe one year ill give it a go as I know it's well regarded.

Tony, I always say that skiing can be as difficult as people want to make it. People could spend their whole week on blue runs in the 3 Valleys if they wanted to and equally they could start at the top of Obergurgl off piste and go straight down without turning! With regards to Obergurgl and Hochgurgl in terms of proportion of difficult versus easy it is similar as any much larger resort. I was there for a whole season and I wasn't bored for one second yet you get certain jerks who will say they skied it all in a day and these types, whilst entitled to their own opinion, miss the whole point of skiing in my humble opinion. Obergurgl is a very nice village, with absolutely superb accommodation and because it is so high always snowsure and a long season. It is not Espace Killy, Trois Vallees or Port de Soleil but I would happily go back anytime.

We hired ours from the ski shop which is part of a hotel - the Riml I think - across the road and up some steps from the Olymp. I think you can leave the skis and boots in the hire shop instead of carrying them each morning. The main lift is very close to this hire shop. We had excellent service from the hire shop whilst we were there.

Scheiber sports also has a hire shop in one of the main hotels in Hochgurgl.
Hochgurgl also has a hotel which i cant remember the name of but it served THE best hot chocolate ive ever had - made from real chocolate- and the toilets had automatic water taps where the water came out in a rainbow ...must have ad a light inside the tap!!!!
been to the area twice and had fantastic time each time.. Looking at the piste map on the left side there is a back are to Hochgurgl which was always empty and therefore areas of fresh snow when the rest of the resort was packed...although there are drag lifts here..
