Hi Sparky,
I went skiing for the first time last year with my young family. I found this place http://www.austrianbreaks.com/index.php we enjoyed ourselves so much we booked at the end of the Holiday to go back this year.
Lofer is an excellent small town that caters for families, it's not to big and there are loads of nice family friendly restaurants to choose from. If you get feed up and want something more challenging there is a local ski bus that will take you off to some more challenging runs while the kids and the wife slog it out on the nursery slopes.
Don't take my word for it read the reviews here http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews-all-76702.html

Hi - I spent 4 years running a ski chalet in Italy but haven't skied for about 8 years so when, determined to show my 5 year old the joy of the slopes, we looked around and ended up buying a ski apartment in Bansko, Bulgaria! It is fantastically cheap, there are some wonderful Spas within 10 mins drive where you can receive top notch pampering and mineral swimming baths for about £20 for the day and children are always welcome! With a meal for 3 of us costing about £12, it is a great way to try without breaking the bank!
