Have skied in Livigno and Madonna and would recommend both for great skiing for all levels. Livigno is definitely livlier!

We're looking at going to Selva or Val di Fassa. Advice on whether to go for Selva, Canazei or Campitello very welcome!

That would depend on the pemium you are prepared to pay for the apres experience and being based closer to the centre of the action. The skiing is essentially the same. Folgarida is about 30% cheaper than MdC; I would imagine that prices in Pinzolo will be similar to those in Folgarida. MdC\Pinzolo can be skied on the same local lift pass: Folgarida\Marilleva can also be skied on a (different) local lift pass. To ski both sectors you need an area lift pass, or you can buy a daily extension (about £10 when I was last there in 2011) at the kiosk by the lifts that take you out of one sector and into the other.

Noting what you say about the resorts your group has already skied, I would add that while MdC is more up-beat than its neighbouring resorts, things don't get as lively there as they do in say, the Mooserwirt, La Folie Douce and their equivalents in Zermatt and Garmisch. I tend to agree with Sue Cymraeg about Livigno. In fact, I reckon Livigno can give Sauze d'Oulx a run for its money in the apres department (the skiing is better in McC though). As I said at the beginning of my post; it all depends how big a factor the whole 'apres thing' is.

I'd second that - Ive done both Sauze and Livigno and had some epic nights out in both. The bar at the base of the Carasello is like an Austrian rave at times - only place I've ever done the conga wearing ski boots.....

For me, I would go for Sauze. Have been to both Livigno & Sauze and would rate the variety of slopes in Sauze as far superior, plus I personally thought Livigno was just OK in the apres dept. and would score Sauze much higher again.

The fact that you can tour across the Via Lattea -Sestriere, Sanscario etc to Claviere, Montgenevre and back - I think is more fun than having the limitations of less well-connected slopes arranged along the two valley sides of Livigno that require a rather disruptive (and sometimes quite slow) bus journey to negotiate.

I personally think the Via Lattea offers more scope for a reasonable intermediate group to have a more interesting week's skiing.
