The question should not even be asked !

Of course everyone takes a towel or rag and wipes off their skis at end of day !

No one just throws skis in car, in closet, in garage etc,,,, and forgets them !

They gave you so much pleasure,,,,should you not "tuck them in" dry !

Dream on,,,,,,

Pavel

Seriously, i haven't.

I tend to just take them in my room and stand them in a warm corner to dry. Or just leave them in the ski locker fresh off the snow.
They get the love on the return home.

I feel bad now.....am i alone in this?

You are not alone, my are left in a boot room overnight, never had a problem :(

Ian,

There are several reasons why skiers should wipe off skis after skiing.

1. With plates and rails for ski bindings water can and does seep between parts and thus get into ski core ( if technician did not place some glue into screw holes )

2.Rust begins the second you put skis on snow/ice/water. Placing skis in a warm, corner helps rust!

3. If your bases have not been waxed for several months and you gave a serious gouge/groove into base,,,,you will get water infiltraton. This happens at tails where base meets end metal or rubber unit!

4. I know you will laugh,,,,,I know you will be incredulous,,,,,I know you will be "unbelievers" but I believe in taking care of my skis,,,,,they give me that extra performance! They are an extension of me! When I feel good,,,,they feel good!
In moments when I need them,,,they are there for me !

That is why all skiers should take care of their skis! They are not "objects",,,,rather they create passions, emotions, very much like an musical instrument !
It is a small "thank you" you give to your skis in taking a rag and just wiping them off! Cleaning them after every ski day! It takes seconds ad it will provide you with hours of pleasure!
But that is me!
You try it for a season and and end of this season,,,ask yourself, "did my skiing improve"?

This is all good pertinent information and following on from the topic I started this morning, I don't think I'd be 'ski proud' enough to possess my own skis :(

My alloys are covered in brake dust and my mountain bike is covered in mud.......'nuff said.
slippy slidey snow......me likey!

I agree with all that Pavel, but I am not putting them in the car after skiing they go in a "luverly" warm ski and boot room ...... and when I depart they are wiped down and dried a coating of wax rubbed on to the edges ready to put into my ski bag and transport them home, I then clean them do any repairs that are needed then edge and wax them for their next outing. Now I have followed this formula for more years than I wish to count and my skis seem to last for ever ... well nearly.
One reason my edges last a long time I service my skis my self and that means I do not take off more edge than is needed unlike the ski shops .... just take off the burrs and finish with a diamond stone, and I'm guessing thats why I like ice so much

So this doesn't apply to hire skis then.

If you love your skis read this;
"Treat them well, off your feet: Off the ice, the biggest killer of blades is rust. Rust is much softer than steel, and once a part of your blade is rusted you can never change that part back to "the good stuff". The rusted spot will never hold an edge again. Do you're very best to avoid water damage!
Always dry off your blades when you get off the ice. Slide your fingers along both sides to remove "snow" as soon as you get off – before you slip on those hard guards. Carefully run your finger along the length of the hollow.
When you're done for the day, be sure to treat them with AfterSkate™ Wipes. First use the dry AfterSkate™ wipe to remove all moisture off the blade and metal parts of the boot. Be sure to get the blade area and the mounting surfaces. The screws will rust as well, and will loosen much more easily when they're rusted or the leather gets rotten. You'll almost always see some more water form from condensate as they warm up, which is why it's imperative that you wipe down all metal parts with the wet "oily" AfterSkate™ wipe right after you have finished removing the moisture.
When you do put them in the bag, always put them in "soakers" like AfterSkate™ Soft Blade Guards. These help to draw off any remaining moisture, but more importantly they provide a cushion for your edges while the skates bounce around inside your bag. NEVER store your blades in hard guards – they hold moisture and are an almost guaranteed rust job.
Finally, maintain your guards. The soakers wear out after a while – they usually get holes at the ends. Replace them when they no longer cover your blade effectively. The hard guards will wear out too — watch for thin spots or holes in the bottom, and replace them immediately when you see signs of wear. Clean out the insides of the hard guards periodically. They will accumulate grit after a while, and that grit is very abrasive."

The above text is in regards to skate blades,,,but has direct application to ski edges!

Thanks for the tip about the 'wipes' Pavelski... one question, is the rust inhibitor safe to come in contact with the bases, or do you need to be very careful to not treat the bases as well.

thanks,
geds.

Geds,

I just tried this product 2 weeks ago !

I am getting from company a bulk order which I will test oh some skis! Will tell you results soon !

According to staff ,,there is very light oil in the wipe which has no effect on ski bases, however they have NOT done any serious experimentation. I will get some l oil ( before it is placed on wipe) and I will apply (liberally) to ski bases! In fact I wll apply several coats to see if;
-bases change color
-bases surface is damaged ,,etc,,

At moment I would just wipe ski edges carefully so that bases are not touched greatly !

Hope this helps !
