The article - http://hvst.org/files/Balance_-_Proper_Boot_Alignment_web_.pdf I found particularly clear, although very detailed.
This is just an area I have had no knowledge off and whilst I apparently ski in good balance and great technique (according to instructor) I do enjoy knowing the why's and wherefore's.
Thanks - any more info/views greatfully received.

I went to Profeet in Fulham a couple of years ago to get new boots but stuck with my old ones as they were far more comfortable than anything they could offer me. I did come away with molded insoles but being a bit knock kneed I bet with boot alignment I would ski even better!

I've now started to question my boots. Or feet. Or skis. Or....well, something, as one of my skis always wants to edge slightly, ie never sits entirely flat.
I've been given an insole to counter an alleged high arch on my left foot (yes, thats the ski that wants to edge) so hoping this might cure it.
I've been warned off looking at the canting of the boot. Not sure why.
But THIS, this is something completely new to me.
This site never ceases to provide massive amounts of knowledge and information.

One test for alignment is whether you can easily swish the tails of your skis side to side (while weight forward) without having to pick one ski up. If the tail edge of one or both skis seems to catch, something needs to be changed. This doesn't necessarily mean you will need canting; there are other things a boot fitter can do to the shell of a boot to flatten your skis, but stopping the foot from pronating is a first step.

So I'm a little late to the lift line it seems but I'm in the same boat as everybody else in this thread trying to get an understanding of boot balancing.
Also is that thing about armpits in relation to knees when squatting like in the pictures OP posted or when standing up? If standing up how should one be standing or should one just relax?

Although aimed at racers this article is worth reading http://hvst.org/files/Balance_-_Proper_Boot_Alignment_web_.pdf
There is a lot of useful info in the Rexxam ski boot manual http://www.mountainsport.ch/pdf/rexxam_manual2011s.pdfEdited 4 times. Last update at 30-Jan-2025
