Ian, I am not sure that this was what Snapzzz had in mind. The way I read his suggestion, it was to try and arrange a suitable resort and date, then let anyone who wanted make their own group arrangements with a view to being able to meet up with other J2Skiers when they are out there.
I quite like this idea, as it gives people many options. After all, we are not all possibly going to get on well when we meet, and booking a week with a bunch of "Internet Friends" has the potential to be a disaster for some.
Perhaps if people meet and ski, better friendships may form with individual groups leading to further ski trips together.
That is the way I read the post, and personally I would be up for a trip like that. I just cannot go during UK half term weeks the Easter holiday or the weeks immediately before these holidays. This is a work requirement, and I am only managing to do the week before half term this year as the holiday was booked six months before work decided to change my job role.

We haven't planned next year's skiing trips yet but will keep an eye on this and see if we can co-ordinate.

There is a massive difference between people you spent several years with and organising it carefully, and a group of people who share the same love for a sport trying to book a holidaybedrock barney wrote:It can be done but a pretty complex exercise. I met up with my old Uni pals in Barcelona last year for a long weekend. Lots of organising required but we all made it. Ended up suffering from borderline alcohol poisoning though......! Rather than taking me back 20 years, it made me feel 20 years older.

A couple of years back, it was suggested that there may be a J2ski holiday. Book a chalet together, etc. As has been said, it all fell apart for a number of reasons:
1. No one could agree on a date. The simple solution is set a date and those that can go, go.
2. No one could agree a resort. See above.
3. People would actually be afraid to commit if it came to paying a deposit.
4. Peoples other halves, probably who dont post or read on here, would probably think their partner was bonkers arranging a holiday with some people they chat to on the internet. You can imagine it cant you: "Will we need to take any outfits or toys darling?"
I actually looked into the costs behind some options going back then, but on reflection I am not sure if I was glad or relieved when it all fell apart.
I think the way I view this website is a community of fellow minded people, all with the same passion, but all with very different personalities and backgrounds; some of whom would never ever get on in the real world, despite their shared love of skiing. Putting such a group of people in a room together could actually turn embarrassingly silent or unpleasant even.
Someone said to me the other day that you cant tell anything about anyone from what they post on a forum. I dont totally buy into that as I am sure people either put on a personality when they post, or reflect their real one. But the point is valid - to each other on this forum we are buddies, colleagues, friends, accomplises. But I like the fact that thats as far as it goes.
Its nice if people go somewhere and find out another J2skier is going to be there, and meet up for a beer or a ski. Thats up to them. I've done it myself 4 years ago, met a really delightful couple and even gone on holiday with them skiing since, becoming good friends. But you should have heard Mrs H when I told her we were going into this bar to meet someone I had been chatting to on an internet site.....!!!!!!
IF, and thats a massive if, this was ever to get off the ground, it needs someone to take responsibility and say, right - this is the crack; we are going this week in this month, and to this resort. Get yourselves booked into whatever accommodation you want so you are not all under the same roof all week, and arrange daily ski meets or beer/lunch stops, etc.
I wish you the very best of luck, and hopefully what I have said has not offended anyone, as I seem to be quite good at doing that without realising it )

:D Just to highlight this point, but I used to go to Le Mans for the 24 hour endurance race. I went for over 20 years and had started to use a forum dedicated to the event and similar round the world.
I arranged to meet up with a bunch of them one evening for a drink and a chat. To my vast amusement, but the rather strange horror of my real friends who did not use the forum, a bunch of these guys turned up dressed in bondage gear complete with gimp masks and leads  Whilst I appreciated that this was just a group of guys having a drink and a laugh whilst on an alcohol fuelled boys only weekend, I never lived it down with my real friends who wanted to know why I had arranged to meet up with a bunch of deviants. I should point out that these were only a small group out of nearly 100 people, but that is all it takes for things to be misunderstood by some.
