A few years ago a young friend of ours drove his car to a beach barbecue and lost the one and only key somewhere in the sand. And, like you said Snowbandit, the garage had to fetch the car in order to reprogram the new key. I think it cost him over a hundred pounds. And then, a few days later he found the old key in the sand with a metal detector!

It wasn't the funeral of anyone close to me Snowbandit, but he was the grandfather of my 4 year old godson, and I spent pretty much the whole day there basically babysitting and trying to help the family through a very difficult day.

Oh, and re your tortoise, I did some research beforehand on Heaven and animals because I was expecting some difficult questions from my godson, and the official party line is that animals don't have souls and don't go to Heaven, but there are plenty of Christians who are convinced their pets are up there waiting for them and there are a few wobbly bits in the bible inferring that possibly animals do go to Heaven. So, just possibly, your tortoise is up there enjoying his favourite food and frolicking in the sunshine.

Life has a habit of doing that to us. I think it has a sneaky way of assessing when things are going well, and you are off guard. It sees your vulnerabilities and dumps on you.

My solution is to meditate. Even if you are not practiced at doing this, You might find just sitting quietly and not thinking about the problems you face will help. It allows your brain to reset and put things in to better perspective. You could try just counting your breaths for twenty minutes. Every time a problem pops into your mind, dismiss it and start counting again.

You never know know but in a relaxed state you may remember where your keys are, or come up with a brilliant solution for the Tortoises. Anyway you are out there trying to live the dream and we are rooting for you.
because I'm so inclined .....

Keep your chin up...I sort of agree with Trenchers solution but substitute meditation with gin.

Think of all the great times you have had, are still having and will have in the future. Life is full of ups and downs...quite like skiing really. I guess compared with some your problems are small and fleeting but just get you when you just don't need them.

Life will be better tomorrow.....when you look out of the window at the snow and think of the fun ahead.

Keep smiling )

Meditation works for some, but personally I find that alcohol tends to help more

Really sorry to hear your issues Snowb4ndit, I hope you decide to stay and can work the problems out. Is there a spare key in the UK? Perhaps you could get it sent out via secure courier. At least this will allow you to drive to a dealer for a spare rather than the cost of a tow.

Sounds like your son needs putting over your knee and getting a good spanking  I assume it was agreed he would keep an eye on the lodgers.

Chin up, at least the snow is excellent )

Thank you all for your replies.

Trencher, I wouldn't call it meditation but I did rub a Buddha's belly today, he was grinning at me. I looked him in the eyes and said "Come on mate help me out".

10 minutes later, my hubby phoned to say he had found the spare key!!! Yippee!!!

Baldeagle and FQ, I am taking your advice  Now where shall I buy my Vodka and DC tonight?

Delighted that the Buddha came good! One big relief I would imagine!

Is there anybody who could help you out on the home front?

I'm coming out to Les Gets/Morzine on 11th Feb - if you fancy meeting a random J2 skier for a coffee that week it would be good to meet you

Great news that a key is found!

I may be having a day in Morzine in about 2 weeks if you fancy showing me the best snow.
