But for a Schiwelt link up to be work effectively, this is not just a question of a bus service. It is much more than that.

A gondola would be nice but clearly dead expensive. I cannot see why a bus should be such a big deal?

I think Dave's talking about politics. In which case, dont expect anything to happen.

Forgive me for getting lost here, Dave. You did say at first:

Also, running a service through to Hopfgarten would only really make sense at the start and finish of each day ~ and that is when the existing bus capacity is fully stretched.

Errrrrr......bigger buses, more buses? This ain't rocket science.

Can't quite see the motivation for Hotel owners wishing to ship their customers out of the area for them to spend money in another valley.

Which also sounded like a negative to me, but then.......

I am not disagreeing with a link to the Schiwelt. The opposite is true. I am pointing out the practicalities of this happening.

Well, I dunno the costs, but in my mind they already employ some dude to sit in a bus shunting up and around the area, so the added cost of running an extra 10 mins down to Hopfgarten can hardly be crippling in the great scheme of things can it????

Maybe in the past they could survive on their own and stay insular, but it is looking clear to me that they need to make some changes.

I cannot see a lift regretfully from Niederau to Skiwelt 'cos the costs would be eye-watering and Skiwelt is already huge and sexy enough, so they would not contribute a penny to that lift!! No reason for them basically. Auffach/Alpbach works because they were both suffering and it's a shorter distance.

I am not hugely interested in historical politics. I shall make my opinion known down there this Season about buses.

Not being negative at all, just observing what is happening, and where the interests lie. The mid-village hotels are showing little interest, beyond mini-bus taxi.

Bigger buses would struggle because of the road. There is only one size of bus anyway, (geared to the roads). I already gave the reasons why there would be difficulties with more buses.

I wasn't referring to cost. Nobody would suggest a gondela link up, it would be the worlds longest.

When the link up is made, and I mean when, for an area link up, as is happening with Wild/Alp, there will be a lot of unification issues. Politics, yes, but the practicals, full bus system, timetables, marketing, Reprints in 4 areas, regional and national, management structure, differential lift pass policy ~ this would cover Kitzbuhel to Alpbachtal. Effects on passes like the Allstar and Tirol passes.

Just a bus extension is unlikely to happen, but you never know.

Last but one time I went, I just stood outside the front door and hitched a lift. Getting back was a bit uncertain, but managed a lift off a local!

We are flying out tomorrow, hurray! What time is last bus from N to O after lifts shut and are kids welcome in any bars in N?

Is there a certain shop we should hire skis from in O, or will any do?

Dunno what time the last bus runs, but I am sure they are sensible about it (can check when there).

Bars are kid friendly, but some probably better than others. There are two round bars at the bottom of the main Gondola. Schnapshütte is very child friendly (owners have kids), and the other round one is where people meet for the skischools....so also lots of family bods.

In Oberau I have used THALER before and they seemed fine.....just on the way out of town in the direction of Niederau.

Harfenwirt and probably the Sunshine. Last year it was Thursday and Friday ~ it's the same set-up.

When are you off Goppy?
