Is it me, or does it appear to have stopped snowing in Kaprun/Zel am see? I should have warned you all a couple of months ago to stay clear of the area as I'm due to go on Monday, typical.

I am going to Zell am See a week on Saturday and I am also a little concerned! Spoke to ski school yesterday and he promised me the conditions were great- but then again he was never going to say they were rubbish!

When I went last year the snow depth was double what it is today and I could walk on the frozen lake. But it never stopped snowing- the snow was mogulled and it was the hardest snow I have ever skiied. The pistes are groomed whatever the depth of snow- you always ski on the top bit! But I do not like to see any green when all I want to see is the white stuff!

I am going to be based in Kaprun so I'm told the Glacier is good all year round, but that's no the point.

It's so annoying that it's been snowing on and off for weeks, yet the week before I'm due to go, nothing! And the only snow forecast for the entire week while I'm there is 8cm on Monday.

I absolutely love ski holidays, but hate the apprehension of there being any snow when you get there.

I was there @ New Year and though no snow in the village the local Kaprun run was open to the bottom and 30cm of snow one night on the glacier.
skied for 6 days no problem.
:D

I'm guessing the glacier will be fine. I was hoping to get over Zell Am See, to mix the days up a bit.... we'll have to see.

You will be fine, only the bottom blue run was closed @ zell when i was there.
On the up side its easier to get around the town with no snow.
Make sure you buy the ski pass for the Kaprun and Zell combined area = 197 euros.
If you fancy something different and are very keen for an extra 16 euros you can get the pass to cover the Sallbach ski area as well, if you have time and they have had really good snow this season and really good runs.
Have a good time :D
